The Solar Nano-Grid (SONG) project is a renewable energy initiative being piloted in four communities in developing areas to find potential solutions for sustainable energy access in small off-grid communities in Kenya and Bangladesh. The project uses a holistic and inclusive approach to bring people together on a local, national and international scale in order to stimulate interdisciplinary collaboration so as to improve our understanding of energy access and invoke sustainable change.

Communities

Rural communities like these often rely on kerosene and/or diesel to generate power, which are potentially harmful to both personal health and the environment.

SONGs aim to provide clean, reliable and affordable electricity to these small off-grid communities.

Resources

Micro-grids are distributed generation systems connected to end-users that are stand alone or connected to an electrical network.

Solar nano-grids (SONG) are based on micro-grids but are smaller in size (1-5kW) and are typically off-grid.
